New Makera entry level CNC?

Anyone Else looking at the Makera Z1? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/makera-inc/makera-z1-entry-level-cnc-pro-level-power? Earlybird price is $799. Looks like it might be good for a newbie like me?

First Plek Post

Just noticed this category was here. Since nobody has jumped in, I'll be the first. We've had our Plek machine since last summer and did just over 300 Plek jobs in the first year. It has become a tremendous asset in our business. I'm happy to be a part of any discussion here. :)

Acoustic Body holder ideas?

What holders/jigs/vise devices have you built to hold an acoustic guitar body upright? I saw Michael Bashkin using something like this in his neck reset video. I’d like a way to clamp the guitar to the side of the bench while I work on the neck.

Thanks Doug. I've got a "Pre-proper" TotalVise but have the Proper's station on order. This is perfect. I didn't know it would do this. Problem solved. :)

What happens to LMI tools?

Was using one of my favorite tools today and wondering what happens when LMI is gone? Is there a possibility someone takes over production of these great tools and jigs? When I heard about LMI closing, I immediately went and ordered a backup fret tang filer…a tool I use every week.

It is my understanding that StewMac is slowly taking over and may reintroduce some tools.

Birkonium Fret Press Cauls

Just got these and they are really neat. If you like to press frets and do compound or imperfect radius fretboards, these are the ticket.

I designed that caul set and had Andy make a few sets for our shop and for students of our fretting classes. After being frustrated with the gaps between “standard spec” cauls vs real world variations…
