Fretboard hump above fret #12
Is it a common problem for the fretboard on an acoustic to develop a hump around Fret #12 and higher, where the neck meets the body? If so, what is the cause, and is there something that can be done, or avoided, during the initial build process? I have two quality Zager brand guitars that both have the problem, with the problem being worse on the cheaper model. I am a newbie to fret dressing and lowering, so I first tried adjusting the…
Martin D-18VM No truss rod?
In the process of evaluating the repairs needed on this guitar I checked to see if the truss rod was working. There is hole in the transverse brace where you would normally insert a truss rod, but all I see is the end of a metal bar with a smallish hole in the center. I tried several allen wrenches that would fit in the hole, but nothing seems to grab. Did they really eliminate the adjustable truss rod on this vintage reproduction? Here'…
Gretsch Country Gentleman with Truss rod adjustment at the neck/body joint??
*See photos* Does anyone have any information on the truss rod nut or adjusmtent tool for this Gretsch 7670 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman? The truss rod adjustment is at the body under a plastic cover and it looks like the truss rod nut is missing. I’ve never seen this before on a Gretsch or any guitar. Let me know if you have follow-up questions. Any info is much appreciated!!

"Angle, center, elevation"...how to close this gap in the neck?
[ The majority of my learning has come from the Blues Creek Guitars YouTube videos and reading books (i.e. no mentor/formal training). ] When I checked the centerline (picture with ruler is pre-adjustment), I was slightly off the perpendicular. So I removed a tiny amount from the cheek (side with the purple tape), getting that nice and flush and centerline where I want it. But now I have a .035" gap on the other side. What should I check…
more side bending
hello looths - i'm building my first guitar. generally following (and enjoying) the gore/gilet books. after 3 tries, i've yet to get a crack free bend around the nose of a venetian cutaway with a mahogany side. i made a version of the fox bender - using clamps on hand for the waist and cutaway, and a pid temp controller (verified accuracy), and am using a stew mac blanket and three straps. the recipe for my last attempt was: sapelle (fo…
Loose Truss Rod Nut
Hi Folks, I'm new here so I appreciate any input upfront! I had this guitar come through the shop and I've run up against something for the first time. The neck needs a little relief but when I went to adjust the truss rod the screw was already completely loose thus I couldn't perform that action. I tightened it just enough to get the truss rod nut to connect to the truss rod without making an actual adjustment to the neck in the wrong dire…

Proper Workstation Gridfinity Tray
I took a basic Gridfinity tray and added a bar to the bottom to work with a cheap camera clamping from Amazon. The clamp fits on the main bar of the workstation, allowing an adjustable tool/parts tray to be mounted on the side of the workstation.
Proper Workstation Adjustment Knob
This is a simple knurled cover for the adjustment nuts on the workstation. It makes adjusting height quicker and easier.
Locating a wrap around bridge
I have a BC Rich Mockingbird (Bronze) that I am practicing my tech skills on. I refretted it and that came out pretty good. I pulled off the old rusty wrap around bridge and am replacing it with a Wilkinson preset. I'm in the process of trying to locate the studs/bushings and I thought I had a good idea on setting the scale length but then I was watching this super elegant repair, where Dan comments to add 9/64ths(?) or so to the scal…

Stripped Out Trussrod
I have an epiphone 335 style guitar on the bench right now. Bad fret buzz on the first frets. No relief in the neck. Pretty Clear its a trussrod adjustment and out the door it goes. But the truss rod is stripped out pretty bad. My 4mm allen fits, in but it has a lot of wiggle. My 5/32" allen doesnt slide in all the way. I dont have a full set of torx wrenches. But i thought that might get some grip. What is the best way to get this thin…
