Acrylic Centering Guide For Obrien Neck Jig?

Does anyone have a laser cutter/engraver file for the Acrylic centerline guide for the O'Brien Neck Jig? I can't find any replacement parts and was hoping to simply make my own. Its the most susceptible piece on the jig and my students can be rough on those.

I think Greg at Skyscraper Guitars manufactures replacement parts for the LMI neck angle jig. I know he has made replacement templates in the past and upgraded them tot he new ones he puts on my jig.…

Cutting Fret Slots

I cut the fret slots for a baritone guitar build today, so I thought I'd share my method for cutting fret slots, as I think it is a bit unusual. I radius and profile my fretboard before I cut the slots. I print out a paper layout of the fretboard, double-stick tape it to the radiused and profiled fretboard, line up the saw by eye to using red hatch marks on the printout, and saw the fret slots with a 3" circular saw that rides on…

Suggestions for repairing an impacted tone pot on a semi-hollow?

I've got a D'angelico semi-hollow electric that's took a hit to one of the pots, breaking some wood and pushing the pot into the body. Not sure on the fix for this and can't find anything online, all suggestions welcome! Thinking of mounting an acrylic disk around the area to attach a long shaft pot to

Gibson Hummingbird pickguard?

Would I be right in guessing this guard is an aftermarket job? It seems to have a stiff clear acrylic underlay (for want of a better word) - the guard itself is very flimsy and just doesn't look right? I don't have a lot of experience with this so would appreciate those with more commenting... cheers, Steve.

That looks like late 90s early 00s factory guard. They were like those puffy stickers. Pretty gross. I would do a test, but probably the best way to get them back down is contact cement and force. Als…

ES-335 Kit Build - Sealer/Grain Fill Question - First Time

I have a client who is going to paint a ES-335 kit guitar (Maple top and Back, Mahogany sides and neck). She will be using an Acrylic (Jesso) matte primer and then painting the entire guitar with Liquitex Acrylic water based paints. Poly finish on top of that. What steps do I need to take to prep the neck and body for painting? Sealer then grain fill then seal again? What products would you use? I have never done this before and am looki…

Are you going to be prepping the instrument before she paints it ? There are a lot of materials here that I've never used on a guitar. I would take the time to get all the materials together and test…

Acrylic touch up paints?

After installing purfling and bindings I noticed a black dot on one of the maple lines— and right at the florentine point! It’s not sanding out. Bummer. As I get close to finish prep does anyone have recommendations on acrylic touch up paint SKUs that work well with maple? These maple purflings happen to be from Gurian Instruments, for what that’s worth. Also, if anyone has an idea of what this dot is and how it got there I’d love to he…

Acrylic clear coat partially dissolved sunburst

Hi all, I'm experiencing a problem with finishing a steel string guitar. After spraying a sunburst with Colortone liquid stains diluted in thinner (which I left curing overnight), I sprayed a very thin coat of SprayMax 2K Clear coat (https://www.spraymax.com/en/products/product/clear-coats-and-spot-blender/2k-clear-coat/) and, to my horror, saw some of the black paint disappear. The amount of SprayMax I sprayed was very little, yet some o…
