Fender, Schmender
Since most of us fix or make guitars, we have probably heard something about the cease and desist letters Fender has sent out concerning the Stratocaster. I thought I would offer some thoughts. As always, caveat emptor. There are three basic ways to protect intellectual property under Federal law. Patent, trademark, and copyright. Each protects different things, and has different underlying legal theories. Lets begin with pate…

Preserving Signature’s
Hey yall! I am thinking through multiple options for preserving a large signature for a customer that is on the Front of a white Strat. I have done this a few ways before but never got to see much how they aged. What’s the general consensus for doing this sort of job? Thanks in advance!
Fender Double-tap humbucker problem
Hello all, A customer dropped a recent American Professional II Strat to have a Double-tap humbucker installed at the bridge. I rewired the guitar following Fender's schematic (see below) and installed a stacked 250 and 500k volume pot, treble bleed PCBs and push-push coil split/tap for this pickup. All went very well, until I tried it at switch position 2. Sure enough, the new unit does not play well with the others and combining delive…
Just one string buzz from 1-12 even with really hi action.
I work in guitar repair for over 20 years and this strange buzz happen only 3 times and i really going crazy. Five years ago a all parts strat neck in G string, change string, leveling frets twice thinking i made a mistake, in some point i made a rudimentar neck jig to tried to repair that neck. Work in that guitar for 3 weeks and string heigth like 3.5mm and yeat, buzzing with not so hard picking just the G, even in other tuning like F…
Shoutout for LED Coatings
I was asked to turn this Fender American Natural Strat into a hard-tail. It would have taken a good while to finish this plug without LED Coatings. I used SM Colortone H2O base grain filler colored with MIxol Ochre; sanded it flat an hour later, then put on a finish with LED Clear Gloss colored with Colortone Stains (Straw, Light Yellow, and a touch of Med. Brown). The entire finish took 25 minutes. THen I glued it in with Epoxy colored…
Strat pickgaurd 2 p90s, one volume and 3 way switch
Anyone know where to purchase something like this? Also, I think the “maker” place in town has a 3d printer, has anyone had luck printing pickguards?
Fender Neck Touchup
Ok. Did a refret on a MIM Fender Strat maple neck. Some of the finish came off (was careful AF but....) It is not lacquer but I assume a poly finish. New lacquer did not meld. Can/should I use a tinted CA fix? Any tips, color recipes? Any help would be appreciated. VERY appreciated. Thanks -Mike
Tightening a Fender Knob?
Hello! Unsure of the "wordage" for this issue. And I'm assuming this has been discussed. Any way of stiffening the volume knob on a Strat? Client keeps bumping it while playing and turning down the volume. Does a rubber washer between the knob and guard work that well? Maybe I'm missing a common fix. Thanks.
Strat mini switch diagram
Hey y’all, I’ve got a customers Strat in, and it had a 30 year old preamp or boost circuit in it that died. So we’re gutting it and replacing it with a standard Strat kind of layout. However, the system was done with individual mini switches for each pickup. The customer would like it to function similarly. I’ve tried to do up the wiring from scratch but haven’t had luck getting it to work as I want. To put it simply, we just want it to be…
Variation on the Gilmour neck PU always on Strat Mod (series linked)
Hi there! I am trying to find an schematic to make a circuit I'd like to try. That would be the Gilmour neck PU always on Strat Mod but in a way that connects that extra pickup in series with the rest instead of paralel like in the original gilmour circuit. The thing is I don't even know if it possible to do it that way or how many switches woud you need to do it in the simplest possible way. If you have any feedback, clues, tips or whate…

Maxed out trussrod
Hi all! Has anyone some tips about a maxed out trussrot? I have a Squier strat with a relief of 0.24. I've bring it down to 0.14, but that still twice the amount I want it to be. The trussrod is maxed out, I can't turn it more because I think its gonna strip out or break or something. Are there some workarounds to lower the relief even more with a maxed out trussrod, or is it what it is?

blower switch plus wiring
I had a customer that wanted a blower switch installed on his James Tyler HSS style Strat. Simple enough, except that he wanted the full humbucker to go through the volume pot as well. The HB was a 4 wire and incorporated a toggle switch to split coils. I scratched my head for a while, drew up a diagram and breadboarded it. It requires a 6PDT switch which was the hardest part of this job to find something that fits. When the switch…
