Proper Work Station Additions

Hey all, I have been working with the work station for a few months now. I love it. I found a few little things that have helped me. 1. A mic stand to support the main beam. I bought the Total Vise version and it didn't work as well. 2. Rockler Bench Cookies as rear cross member supports. They have the correct 5/16-18 inserts in them and screw on easily. Now the thread rod has a sort of hi/low setting by just flipping it for acoustic or…

Excellent ideas. I use a cymbal stand instead of a mic stand for mine. Yes buy the neck support I agree. Can you post the link to the thumbwheels from Amazon?

It's urethane rubber sheeting. I get it from McMaster-Carr. I think the wooden jaws on the Stewmac vise uses 1/16th" urethane. The Total Vise stuff is typically 1/8 inch. You can also get it in 3…

Steam Box Idea... What's wrong with this idea?

Speaking of Trevor Gore... I've started using falcate bracing on my ukuleles and in making the braces, 3 strips of .0625" spruce are bent and then put in a bent lamination glue up rig using epoxy. Bending spruce is no fun on a hot pipe. It's slow, fussy, the fibers want to delaminate. I have been thinking about building a small dedicated steam box. Pulling all 3 of the strips out at once and bending them over a form with a metal back…

I tried it once for trying to bend mandolin sides. This was in 2006, back when the internet wasn't nearly as useful as it is today, so the attempt was pretty incomplete I think. If I remember correctl…

Traditional woodworker's bench

I've been building up my "2 car garage shop" for about 10 years preparing for retirement from health care. This spring I finally quit punching the time clock. Over the same time I've build 13 mandolins and 4 guitars. Now I pretty much have all my tools in place and enough wood stored to build for quite some time. My work benches are built with a heavy door for a top and base cabinets I scavenged from work. Lately I have toyed with the i…

That's impressive! I found a Sjoberg's Elite in very good condition on FBMP and offered the seller a ridiculous price. They bit, so that's what I ended up with. I hurt for 2 days after tearing apart t…

Total vise work station

Hey everyone! I bought a proper work station and after some moving around have it in a good spot in my shop. It’s proving to be a huge upgrade now that I am getting used to it. I know people have been getting creative with modifying and adding new features to it. If anyone wants to share their ideas I am looking for inspiration! Thanks!!!

Work Tray & Tool Holder for Proper's Guitar Workstation

I installed my new Proper’s Guitar Workstation, and other work holding equipment from Total Vise, in my shop this week. I customized my pedestal with a work tray & tool holder, using their “Pedestal Work Board Support." This will keep me from having to always go back & forth to my bench to set things down and get the tools I need, etc. I'm looking forward to how all of this new gear will help make my work easier, quicker, and cleaner, a…
