Confounding Refret....
Well, I am pulling my hair out here...
just did a compression fret job on a 2017 D18 Authentic 1939. Neck had severe excess relief, so I pulled the frets, planed the board flat, and got to work....done this a handfull of times, so I wasnt expecting anything out of the ordinary......
I got a handful of frets in, checked my relief by stringing up the guitar, and decided I need to keep pushing, so I got a full set of frets in and somehow im still at .020" of relief......OK, ill pull some frets and drive in thicker wire.....I do so, and only get minor results.......I proceeded to swap some frets with wider tangs, string it up, measure, detune, swap some frets with more wider tangs, string it up....and so on until I ended up with a full set of frets with the widest tang I have available.....thats frets 1-14 with unaltered stewmac Cryowire driven into fret slots that measured around .022" when I started...the bards bon the cryowire measure at about .037.......I think this guitar is just begging me to throw it in the fire pit
