The Hub

Long story short, Mom's sitting next to her guitar and POW, the bridge pops off taking part of the top with it. Now I'm trying to figure out how to fix it and I would like your feedback on my plan below.

The hole is roughly the same size as the bridge. The top is a 3-layer laminate. The bridge, top, and bridge plate all came out as a single unit. The glue on the braces behind the bridge has failed, so the top will need to be re-glued.

Here are my thoughts for making the repair:

1.) Glue the top back to the braces.

2.) Clean up the hole by cutting out the area within the blue tape.

3.) Install a new bridge plate which will be made up of 3-ply strips laid in between the braces extending 1 inch beyond the hole toward the sound hole and toward the tail block.

4.) Fill the cut-outs in the braces from the previous bridge plate.

5.) Fit a piece of spruce (grain aligned) to the hole and glue it to the braces and new bridge plate.

6.) Tape over where the bridge will be glued to the top and then do my best to color match and finish the top with lacquer.

7.) Glue the bridge (as close the the previous bridge location as I can estimate).

8.) String it up and see how it sounds.
