Troubleshooting Intermittent Pickup Output Drop
Hi. I recently got a strat where the middle pickup cuts out intermittently. I cleaned and, using a multimeter, tested all the components. As far as I can tell the pickup itself has an internal break somewhere.
After testing the components I wired the middle pickup directly to an output jack. Tapping the top of the pickup caused the output to toggle on and off. I also re-soldered the leads at the pickup eyelets but that didn't resolve the issue.
Does it seem reasonable that there's an issue in the pickup itself? The thing that makes me hesitate about the issue being with the pickup is that when I take resistance readings with the pickup removed from the pickguard I always get a reasonable value (~10kohm), but when the pickup is mounted in the pickguard I occasionally get open circuit readings when I do the tap test. Anything else I could/should do to test?
