Gretsch Rally Hell
Just sharing some info to procrastinate my nth attempt at getting this thing together. and some venting. If you get one of these in with electronic issues, estimate high.
Customer brought in a Gretsch Rally in pieces that he picked up from the last repairman (who died), and just wants it to play. Minor binding repair and a weirdly-angled zero fret were relatively easy to deal with. The dead electronics are the main problem. I've been doing this a lot of years, and this is the most difficult archtop electronics installation I have encountered.
This guy's work has seriously made this whole thing possible. I couldn't have done what I have without this resource:

The "Sonic Boom" board was dead and covered in some kind of goo. I tried to troubleshoot it, but just gave up and built what amounts to a Rangemaster circuit on prototype board, and that works quite well. Unfortunately, with Jack, circuit board, 3 switches, and 4 pots, and access through either F holes, small holes for the pickup pole piece travel, and a battery panel, every time I get things mounted, something is broken loose or making contact to something it shouldn't.
anyway, time to go bang my head against a wall again....
