Just joined the group and have only built 3 guitars so far but just ran into trouble on my latest project. Long story short: I built a '57 LP Jr that came out fantastic but the neck was set incorrectly and was nearly unplayable. I cut off the body and made a new one and applied the burst and a few coats of clear before gluing in the salvaged neck. To finish up the neck joint with a bit more black, I dusted off my 20 yo Paasche airbrush, practiced a bit then went after that neck joint. As you can see from the photo, it came out horrible, and I have no idea why. Body was finished to this point with StewMac rattle can lacquer, and I used a 50:50 mixture of lacquer thinner to StewMac clear lacquer with about 20 drops of Mixol in 10ml total volume. Practicing on a re-sanded and vinyl sealed ply body blank I used for practicing painting the burst, it looked fine but not so much so on the new body. The body was wet sanded and wiped with naphtha before the airbrushing. I figured before making matters worse, I would see if one of the experts here might be able to offer some advice.
