Automotive paint?
Hi -- I am planning to have a maple Thinline Tele top painted by an automotive paint shop. They've made a glossy and a matt sample for me and it looks great. I wonder if anyone has any experience with this, and specifically:
- if I bind the top first, will the paint stand very proud above the binding once I scrape the paint off the binding?
- the matt looks terrific, but it looks like it will burnish and get shiny in spots or lines if something like a fingernail or a pick scrapes the top. Will this be an issue? Should I add another protective coat?
The clear coat they have used is: R-M MatTOP+ C 2A93 is a 2-component (2K) matt clear coat system designed for automotive refinishing to achieve a matte or satin finish. It is part of the R-M Advance Series and is used with specific TopCure hardeners to provide durability, chemical resistance, and UV protection.
