After watching Jeff Jewitt's Touch Up for Builders video, I began looking for a source with a selection of pigments like he has. I started by looking at Mohawk Blendal powder stains, but they only had 6 of the 12 pigment colors I was looking for. I widened my search, and exchanged e-mail with a couple of Etsy vendors. I was fortunate enough to find KonstantasShop which offers 24 pigment colors. While I suspect this collection is targeted to artists, Alexandros Konstanta was very helpful in answering my questions, and supplying 12 of the 24 colors that I thought were representative of the colors in Jeff's pigment kit. (I think Alexandros shows this as the Basic Collection, but I would get confirmation from Alexandros). My total cost was under $120 US for the 12 packets of pigments. I selected this one specifically because the divider grids were fixed. There are lots of boxes with adjustable dividers but I didn't want to take the chance of the pigments mixing under the dividers. BanQiao also has an 18 grid box too if you want expansion space.

I tested the pigments with Gluboost thin and my own mixed shellac. The first palette photo shows each of the pigments mixed with about 3 drops of Gluboost thin. The colors reluctant to mix with the CA were the Raw Sienna Light, White, and French Yellow. Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Raw Umber, and Raw Sienna did not mix easily, but were better. The remaining colors mixed almost effortlessly. As a test I added a few drops of acetone to the colors that were not mixing as well, and it did help somewhat.

Since most of my color touch ups are done with shellac, I retested each pigment with about 3 drops of shellac. In each case the pigments mixed easily.

The issue with some of the pigments not mixing well with CA is not a deal breaker for me but I thought it would be useful to try since my only other experience with pigment powders are the MasterTints offered by Gluboost. It's not an insignificant investment, but considering my investment in my 11 bottles of TransTint/ColorTone tint/dyes, and the amount of finish repair work I do (I'm working on 4 guitars right now with finish repairs), I think these pigments are a great value.
