I once heard on the Loothalong Grace talking (figuratively) about for a list of all the things thay may cause rattle in a guitar, and after fighting with a setup lately I'm in for starting this list, from the headstock down :

- Old strings : replace the strings.
- Loose tuners : tighten the ferrules, tighten the screws (on the buttons / on the axis).
- Nut : create a funnel for the strings to ease the path to the tuners. Make sure that the string tree lower the strings enough, and the strings are wound low enough (enough turns) to insure proper angle at the nut. Make sure the nut is well seated (no rocking or gap below the nut). According to the issue, restring, grind the string tree, lower the string tree, replace the string tree for a lower one, relocate the string tree, replace the nut.
- Loose trussrod / loose trussrod nut : tighten the trussrod nut until it encounters resistance.
- Loose frets : set the frets with CA glue.
- High frets : plane the frets.
- Groved frets : plane the frets.
- Loose pickup ring screws : tighten the screws.
- Loose height adjustment screws : replace the springs / foams / tubbing for higher ones.
- Low angle at the bridge : increase the angle by lifting the bridge or tightening the string retainer if applicable.
- Loose bridge intonation screws : tighten the screws / replace the springs for longer ones.
- Loose bridge acoustic saddle : replace the saddle.
- Flat bridge acoustic saddle : round the saddle.
- Loose saddle height adjustment screws : tighten the screws.
- Loose tremolo springs : tighten the screws of the hook.
