Lucas Randall - Arbolist Woodworks

Between my two years studying guitar repair, design, and building at Red Wing (Minnesota State College Southeast), I worked for St Paul Guitar Repair and spent two years at Collings Guitars in the acoustic neck department as the lone neck shaper and sander. At Collings I sanded and shaped approximately 2000 necks and radiused, glued, and inlaid about 750 fingerboards. I also level sanded around 300 acoustic necks in the finish department, and prepared fingerboards for and pressed around 100 sets of frets. I have experience designing and prototyping electric guitars both by hand on paper and with CAD (Rhino 8). I've also had experience with programming and operating CNC (Rhino CAM) with projects including carve tops, intricate original shell inlays, pocketing, profiling, and parallel/horizontal finish operations, and various jigs and templates. I excel at fretwork, set up, and fit and finish, and I have experience spraying and buffing various finish mediums including nitrocellulose lacquer, 2k urethane, and UV poly.

I believe that clear, concise, and consistent communication is key for an operation to be efficient and of the highest quality. I am not afraid to ask questions often and to seek help from those more knowledgeable than me. I love learning. My background as a classically trained musician and an athlete have taught me how to seek out, absorb, and immediately apply knowledge.
