Using Maple for Back Inside Center Seam

I just read a small note in a new OM plan (GenOne) I'm using that suggested maple as an alternate wood for the inside center strip between the back braces. Wondering what would be the downside of that (passive back). A curly maple strip would certainly be attractive, and the mass/ stiffness difference is virtually negligible for a passive back. Thoughts? I'm cutting braces this week...

Steam Box Idea... What's wrong with this idea?

Speaking of Trevor Gore... I've started using falcate bracing on my ukuleles and in making the braces, 3 strips of .0625" spruce are bent and then put in a bent lamination glue up rig using epoxy. Bending spruce is no fun on a hot pipe. It's slow, fussy, the fibers want to delaminate. I have been thinking about building a small dedicated steam box. Go bar deck bars source?

I’ve used thin plywood slats forever in my go bar deck, but I think I’m ready to try fiberglass bars. What’s the consensus on a good source for these? Also for some reason, I seem to remember seeing someone using fiberglass slats. Maybe they were manufactured for sail stays? As in on a sailboat. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I use fiberglass driveway markers from Lowes or Home Depot. They work great and are cheap and easy to get. If you want some extra padding dip them in a tool coating.

Missing soundhole braces Gretsch 6021 Town&Country Rancher flattop acoustic

Technically this is a repair, but I thought there would be some crossover with building, so I posted here as well. A 1950s Gretsch Town & Country Rancher 6021 is missing the two braces on either side of the sound hole (see photo). Guitar frequency testing in the white.

In Michael Baskin's on-line video, he uses a frequency test of a guitar in the white to determine whether to thin the lower bout before finishing. The guitar in the video has a bridge attached. I'm wondering if this is the final bridge or something temporary. If the latter, how do the results compare to the final frequency analysis? I would probably blue tape/super glue the bridge in place vs bolts which would change the weight somewhat radically.
