Hi all. I'm in the process of working with a landlord to customize a space for my growing repair and building business. I cut the fret slots for a baritone guitar build today, so I thought I'd share my method for cutting fret slots, as I think it is a bit unusual. I radius and profile my fretboard before I cut the slots. I print out a paper layout of the fretboard, double-stick tape it to the radiused and profiled fretboard, line up the saw by eye to using red hatch marks on the printout, and saw the fret slots with a 3" circular saw that rides on…

I'm reading the Design book of the Gilet/Gore set (2nd Edition) and ran across something that surprised me. Under "Top bracing layout - guidelines" (Section 4.4.8, pp 4-52) Gore writes, "Brace ends that are housed into the linings stiffen the edge of the soundbard considerably and so constrain its mobility. Hey Everyone! Does anyone have experience with using the neck jig/shop stand setup without bolting the stand to the floor? Eventually I will bolt it down but want to try a few different spots to commit (still working on shop layout). I just had epoxy floors put down and do not want to drill extra holes in the floor!
