Finishing over Signatures
I was approached by a local music venue about finishing over the signatures on this Dean guitar. I have finished over signatures before, but never an entire guitar. The main challenges, as I see it, with this endeavor is prepping the existing finish. Cleaning the existing finish without disturbing the signatures will be time consuming enough, but abraiding/sanding the finish will be cost prohibitive. I have already experimented on a test…

How do you all keep track of your builds/repairs?
Hey all. I apologize if this type of post isn't allowed here but wanted to share anyway. I've been building a tool called Looth specifically for luthiers and repair techs, and I'm looking for a small group of interested looths to help shape it a bit more before it goes public. Dome sander
Here are some pictures that show the basic elements of a dome sander I made. Critical part is a lawn mower blade bearing/spindle. Cost $63. It is marked part # 607418 Blade spindle assembly. It has a tap for a .625-11 bolt on the side I put facing upward to bolt on the disk, and a shaft with a keyway on the bottom to attach to the big pulley. I used a 11” diameter and 2.5” diameter pulley combination. This gives just about the perf…

My shop tools (bandsaw, drill press, vertical belt sander, etc.) have a 1-1/2 inch connection for vacuum, but I have mostly been too lazy to use them. (note that I finally added a portable shop air cleaner with HEPA filters). When the most recent Wo…

Automatic glue dispenser
https://youtu.be/hwuFgq64mT4?si=NHJmgg12q2EL-D41&t=23 I was checking out this video from Warmoth and that fancy glue shooter caught my eye. After some brief amazon sleuthing I found something similar for surprisingly not as much as I thought it would cost. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098R7ZWP9/?coliid=I2RE7GKODJQXD4&colid=14B0Z9NCO74LW&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1 Looks like the above link is entry level with some fancier units in t…
