I usually build flat top guitars and usually joint the tops and backs with a Stanley no 5 style of hand plane ( only different brand). I want to build an archtop instrument, and the wood blanks I have are longer than usual and, of course, a lot thicker. What size plane do you use for kind of job? Would it be easier with a longer plane (6 or 7)? Thanks! Jorge

Maybe a dull topic but I just happened to find this Conn Strobotuner at an antique shop for a "decent" price. Works great, not sure if I'll use it in place of the peterson strobe app on my ipad but in conjunction for certain jobs . What do you all use as your main bench tuner?

Just noticed this category was here. Since nobody has jumped in, I'll be the first. We've had our Plek machine since last summer and did just over 300 Plek jobs in the first year. It has become a tremendous asset in our business. I'm happy to be a part of any discussion here. :)

I made a press along the lines of what was described in a John Calkin article in the Ken Parker issue of the American Litherie magazine. Today was my first chance to give it a shot and it seems to have done a great job. I diverged from the article by using Nylok nuts, which ended up being a total pain, definitely not worth The Certainty of it Staying Put. I had to pull some frets on a neck I built to straighten it out 😣 given that the neck is bound, cleaning up the slots with the little StewMac fret saw with the red handle was a serious chore I’d like to avoid doing ever again. I’ve heard the little Japanese fret saw Stew Mac sells is nice to have but also I’ve always been shy about putting a Dremel on the board to get the job done and I think I’d like to try that out.
