1986 HD 28 Neck Set
To repair previous "repairs" I removed the back of this guitar. I'm considering setting the neck by slightly pulling the block back whilst gluing on the back. If the seam on the bottom of the guitar where the back and sides meet is within easily workable amount (see by doing a dry run) then hmmm...the concept has my attention! I could otherwise just do a regular neck set. Votes? Thoughts?? Images

New Acoustic Build - Having trouble
Hi all. Brand new member. I’ve been building a classical guitar via kit from LMI for a couple of years now. I keep putting it off but recently became motivated to get back to it. Unfortunately LMI is out of business so I now have no one to go to to ask questions. I’m at the stage where I’m putting the sides together in the form. I followed the dimensions for the form based on the plans as I measured them, but the sides overlap pretty ba…

Yamaha FG 75 Heat Probe Locating
I added measurements for the Yamaha FG red label FG 75's some time ago. I Keep getting these in for neck resets. I wanted to add photo's from the first one because they show that the dovetail joint does not align with the first fret beyond the neck/side to make folks aware so that one knows to slightly angle the drill to hit the pocket. I do the same on the holes drilled at the fret at the side/neck fret. I slightly angle the drill…
Tiny fret slot blues
Hey lads I'm in a bit of an indecisive spot with a 70's yamaha acoustic refret. Pulled the original frets and the tang is .018" with no barbs just divots pressed into the lower edge. The slot is measuring .018". Struggled to find any suitable sized fretwire in stock in the UK that match what the customer wants that'll fit in the slot. Sintoms looked ideal but couldn't find any, so went with something with 0.20 tang and they're not pressi…

Seagull Acoustic Neck Reset...
Hey everyone, I wanted to do a bit of a follow up on a repair I'm doing. A customer brought in a Seagull acoustic guitar that had been dropped, causing the heel block to separate. I managed to get that glued back together with pleasing results, however I did need to take the neck off by removing the two bolts which thread into the heel block, and unglued the fretboard extension. All went well here, although I'm left with a situation whe…
How would you tackle this airline damage repair?
(Just to set expectations, I bought this for the sole purpose of learning. Not a client project) I got this Martin D28-12 in destroyed condition, after an airline did something awful. As I see it: - Top cracks - Back cracks - Top & side separation with some broken off kerfing - Brace ejected When I was looking at the pictures online pre-purchase, I thought I might take the neck off and re-top it, or at the very least, take the top off and fix…
Missing soundhole braces Gretsch 6021 Town&Country Rancher flattop acoustic
Technically this is a repair, but I thought there would be some crossover with building, so I posted here as well. A 1950s Gretsch Town & Country Rancher 6021 is missing the two braces on either side of the sound hole (see photo). Because this is such a wide instrument (17” lower bout), I’m thinking that installing those missing braces will help with the stability of the top in addition to repairing the cracked/loose ladder braces. The…

Vintage Yamaha FG Neck Resets
I've completed 89 vintage FG neck resets. https://yamahavintagefg.boards.net/ See the Repair section. As others have noted, the joint is very tight, and they put glue in places it shouldn't be, like gluing the face of the heel to the side of the guitar. I've done a few that were fairly easy, and a few that were brutally hard, but the rest were very difficult. A few had little to NO neck pocket! All with steam, and a neck press of my…
