This is a rotary tool attachment to grind flush what little remains of the tang after using a tang nipper. It works with Dremel style cutoff wheels. There are two versions, one that screws on a Dremel, one that clamps on Proxxon.

The idea is to create a very shallow hollow on the bottom of the crown for the overhang, so it will sit perfectly on the fretboard.
The ramp adjusts up and down to get the right depth of cut.

For best results print the ramp component with the dovetail facing UP, that way it slides better on the other component.

Hardware:

  • The Dremel version needs 1 M4 12mm hex head bolt for the slider lock
  • The Proxxon version needs 1 M4 12mm hex head bolt for the slider lock, 1 M3 12mm Allen head bolt, 1 M3 nut and 1 M3 washer for the clamp.

The parts can be printed in PLA, the fit is pretty tight and will smooth out with use. The hole for the lock bolt has modelled M4 thread, depending on your printer and print setting you may want to chase the threads during assembly.

If needed I can model additional ramps for different tang widths, this one is designed for standard-ish .023''
