Wiring weirdness

I had a customer ask me to take a look at this electric guitar an "amp guy" did some work on. (if you couldn't tell by the size of cap he installed 😆) Seymour Duncan hsh pickup configuration. Is there any good or logical reason one would put the north start, finish and the south finish all on the same lug of a switch? The guitar plays but has more buzz on the hb settings than the single coil. I know how to rewire it to be more... traditi…

Best not to overthink the previous installer's intentions, judging by the excess foil left from the cable and the bare ground wire, just waiting for an opportunity to ground out and short the pickup.…

Les Paul (Knock Off) Wiring - Volume Pot Issue

Hi Everyone, I've got this knock off Les Paul in the shop right now and the wiring is a rats nest as you can see in the picture. Does anyone know which of the pictures from the guitar wiring bible what would apply to this guitar? The volume pot is an issue that I may just try to clean but if I do decide to tackle all of the wiring I’m curious to know which diagram I should be working with. Thanks in advance! Images

It looks like modern wiring. Personally, I tend to prefer doing modern wiring, no real reason why. Regardless, it will be easier and better to start from scratch then to try and make this mess work.

Wiring Overhaul - Music Man Reflex Game Changer

Would you have any recommendations on wiring configurations and piezo controllers to replace the electronics in my Music Man Reflex, which used to have the Game Changer system? The guitar has an HSH pickup configuration with a piezo bridge pickup. It has three existing holes for Volume/Tone/Blend, a blade switch slot, and a 3-way switch hole. When I bought this guitar about a decade ago, the Game Changer system offered a mind-numbingly a…

You might even consider the Free-Way switch such as on StewMac. 5-way/10-position switch, lots of wiring options there.

3-pickup wiring help needed

Hey everyone! I'm finishing up my latest build and looking for help with the wiring. It's a 3-pickup configuration with a standard 3-position toggle switch. The plan is for 3 pots: master volume, master tone, and a volume just for the middle pickup (as a blend so that it can be added in any position). The 3-way toggle will be a standard Neck - [Neck + Bridge] - Bridge. I looked through @member ' excellent book and didn'…

Thanks!! I realized my initial message didn't make it clear that the middle pickup should be independent.

Reinstall Loose Barrel Jack on G&L Asat

i have a 2010 g&l asat bluesboy with a loose barrel jack. which is to say, when a cable is gently unplugged the jack comes out of the body. there is no nut on the inside of the control cavity to hold the jack in place - it looks like the wood itself is threaded. the jack barely protrudes into the control cavity so i don’t see an obviously good way to get a washer and nut on it. any ideas outside of enlarging the hole and installing a jac…

i can confirm that the twine method recommended by G&L secures the jack very well. glad that i don't have to alter the guitar after all.

Troubleshooting Intermittent Pickup Output Drop

Hi. I recently got a strat where the middle pickup cuts out intermittently. I cleaned and, using a multimeter, tested all the components. As far as I can tell the pickup itself has an internal break somewhere. After testing the components I wired the middle pickup directly to an output jack. Tapping the top of the pickup caused the output to toggle on and off. I also re-soldered the leads at the pickup eyelets but that didn't resolve the…

Ran into a similar issue recently with a dimarzio humbucker where it was going dead every now and then. The issue was a broken wire somewhere in the winds, it only worked when the pickup was in a spec…
